Very nice portrait, I like the sad/hope & desire expression of your face here You might should improve the level of grays in this image. Howerver, light settings fits perfect here, giving a nice contrast, but the pic looks too flat. That could be due the camera. Image looks pretty posterized, specially, in the nose. You can improve it in Photoshop, blurring a bit the artifacts in the photo using some noise reduction and you can retouch the light a bit with the dodge/burn tool using small values, like: Burn = 0,5% if set to shadows. You can use higher values if using the Dodge/Burn tool with othr settings, like midtones. When using the burn tool in highlight mode, make sure to use lower values as well
You can paint over the pic to give an extra feeling of depth and enhance the contrast and detail of the pic. Pay attention that the pic already has some details which doesn't look nice, and, if you enhance details here, you will worst the pic, so first, I recommend you cleaning the pic of those artifacts. And remember, you deserve a better camera. Hope you get it soon, so you will have something much more similar to the reality when shooting black and white pics. Black and white pics are pretty hard in digital, due the lack of values per channel a digital camra is able to handle... However, try to understand the histogram, when editing, and always use 16 bits of depth for less posterization
